Kate Spade

My time with my subjects is often incredibly brief.  A small window into a life I would never get to share without my camera.  Kate Spade was just incredibly fun.  Painting her toenails at her desk was not on the agenda - but it became one of my favorite shots ever.  How do you get that shot? You just ask then climb up on something to get a good angle.  The rest of the shoot was equally sweet - full of color - and full of life.  Often times when I read about such sadness in someone’s life that I shot, I think that I come in through the door of joy. That is how I am wired.  Am I blind to the dark side? Maybe in my pictures.  But in every life - even lives with incredible sadness - there is also joy.  That is why I love this picture even more.
