Anita Hill

I photographed Anita Hill less than a year after the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings. I set up some lights - and then just lifted the garage door where we were shooting and did this shot with natural back lighting. I wanted to do a shot with great dignity and even greater empathy. There is a behind the scenes shot from this shoot of me laughing and Anita making a really funny face. Anita’s character was assassinated by the senate and many in the country. But she was an incredibly powerful, brave woman. Spending time with her showed both her power and her humor. She was put before the country as so one dimensional. My job was to show more dimensions.
