When I first went into Bottom Feeder Books in the Point Breeze neighborhood of Pittsburgh I knew I wanted this brilliantly curated shop to flourish and prosper. Ryan McLennan, the owner, has an incredible eye for books and photography and even the music that is played. I want to spend hours there exploring books I never knew existed, and ones I totally forgot about. They also have a small gallery I was introduced to when my friend Paul Rosenblat had a show there last spring. Ryan and I talked and came up with this idea to show a collection of my Francesca Woodman images. Many prints from my 2019 MCA Denver show “Portrait of A Reputation” and some new discoveries we have just scanned and printed. It has been wild holding a magnifying loop to the negatives I shot so long ago and seeing the images come to life. Also available will be the Rizzoli book from the MCA show which combines Francesca’s and my own images from our time together at RISD.

If you are not familiar with Francesca’s work there is a lot to explore (try streaming the documentary, "The Woodmans"). If you are interested in my chapter of the story, there is a great interview here.

I will be at the opening this Saturday night, November 2 from 6-8. Signing books. Giving a little tour of the work. And I will be VERY happy just before the election to be with friends. Come join us!
The show runs through November 30. 8x10” signed prints of image in the show will be available through my studio (studio@langestudio.com) as well as a whole collection of new prints we have been making this fall.

Reading your reflections on Francesca Woodman’s photographs truly moved me. The way you captured her balance between vulnerability and strength made me think about how creativity often mirrors our search for self-understanding. I find it inspiring how art like hers reminds us to embrace imperfection and emotion as part of being human. Your post also sparked a thought about how pressure and deadlines can sometimes blur that sense of authenticity—something I’ve experienced while juggling coursework. Recently, I found that getting Law Assignment Help from New Assignment Help gave me the breathing room to reconnect with my creative side and focus more deeply on projects that actually inspire me. There’s such beauty in reclaiming that space for emotion and reflection, just…
It is deeply moving to read your reflections on Francesca Woodman and to learn about the rediscovery of those negatives, as there is something incredibly intimate about revisiting such personal artistic history through a magnifying loop. The way you’ve bridged your shared past at RISD with the curation at Bottom Feeder Books offers such a beautiful, grounded perspective on her legacy—one that feels far more human and vibrant than a standard retrospective. Conclusion starters often serve as a gentle pause, so I’d like to say that in bringing these images back to life and sharing them with the community, you aren’t just exhibiting a collection; you are preserving a rare, authentic connection that invites us all to see the smiles…
Such a captivating reflection on Francesca Woodman’s work there’s a quiet intensity in her expressions that invites deeper thought and emotion. The storytelling through imagery feels timeless and layered. Just as a powerful photograph communicates beyond words, an explainer video Production company can translate complex ideas into compelling visual narratives that truly resonate.
As a designer, I really appreciate how strong visual storytelling connects people emotionally something that also matters when designing products like custom metal pins, where detail, creativity, and storytelling help bring designs to life and make them memorable.
