Spike Lee’s office is in the same neighborhood of Brooklyn, Fort Lee, that he grew up in. When I arrived to do a portrait for Vanity Fair, I saw all these little kids playing outside and thought that They all had potential to beSpike Lees. I wanted to imagine them locking into their visions, working really hard and launching what made them great out into the world. I suggested to Spike that we invite a bunch of the kids to his roof, gave them Spike Lee merch to wear and do a group shot. Spike rarely laughs for photos and I love how happy he is in the middle of all these kids.
